This young man is today in transit to Afghanistan on a six month deployment. He is my grandson and I know I won't rest until he comes home. So I have made a pact with myself. If Conor can serve in a war zone, I can work at getting myself sorted, physically, mentally, emotionally.
I know I have tried before, but I have never had a grandson at war before. So this time will be different. When I am wanting to give up I will have his picture in front of me and that will spur me on.
I am doing this for ME, no one else, I don't care if anyone else is interested. This is me keeping strong for my daughter her family and her son.

bless you, your family, and Conor.
Oh, Sheilagh. I am a mother of sons. My younger son, who is now 36 years old, joined the army right out of high school, at the age of 18. He wanted to be a paratrooper.
I told him I'd buy him a car if he didn't go. He went anyway.
He got to jump out of airplanes--I was barely able to take a deep breath until he came back home.
There was no Afghanistan back then and I was still beside myself.
I will definitely be praying for him, and you.
Deb
